I’m a Hufflepuff and I love this poem, it’s well done and very funny. It was the highlight of my week to come back from uni and be greeted by my little sister reciting the whole poem to me! House hate is like sports hate – not real hate and makes everything much more fun!

I’m in Gryffindor. Not all of the Gryffindors are always brave, you can see Petter Pettigrew. Ravenclaws are intelligent, how about Gilderoy Lockhart?. Slytherins have the stereotype of being shady with dark intentions, but that’s not always true, what about Merlin and Snape?. And Hufflepuffs are known as the losers and loners and the dim-witted, but can you see Tonks and Cedric Diggory?

I’d just like to say one thing to the writers (though I realise they’ve stopped replying to comments: for ravenclaws you sure seem to be ignorant of the laws of discourse: namely: Poe’s law. Now, obviously Poe’s Law doesn’t *quite* fit this situation since it’s generally reserved for Fundamentalism, but the broader logic still applies. It can be very difficult to tell the difference between a parody of an existent opinion and the opinion itself.

Take also the terms of social justice discourse, about why certain off-colour jokes are usually regarded as not actually funny – because for every person who says the insult in a joking or ironic manner, there’s at least one person who actually means it.

The Hufflepuffs are getting so defensive because we’ve heard this all said to us sincerely so much that the “it’s just a joke” defense has stopped sounding even remotely comforting, and in fact tends to only serve to make us more annoyed.

To all those who commented that justice and loyalty and patience and honesty and hard work aren’t useful qualities, I would argue that they are actually extremely useful qualities, and not just for being a mundane person who doesn’t stand out – having patience and valuing honesty and hard work, and being tolerant of and caring for a diversity of personality types actually makes for a really good mix of leadership qualities.

Also consider that Helga Hufflepuff’s opinion that she would take the lot rather than only pick students with a certain quality was an example of her sense of fairness and justice. Certainly it means Hufflepuff house may as a whole appear to be the place for underachievers, but simply because Hufflepuffs tend to value the collective over the individual (a trait that Slytherin also shares to a small extent, with its propensity for an us-vs-them mindset) does not mean every single Hufflepuff is going to be weak and stupid and cowardly and unambitious. Every house has its Peter Pettigrews and Zacharias Smiths, just as every house has its Harry Potters and NymphadoraTonkses.

In short, the joke of this song fell flat, the lyrics weren’t sufficiently witty to clearly delineate them as a satire, and Hufflepuff is just as good of a house as the other three.

That was the most ridiculus comment I have ever heard. First, Cedric was an amazing character, he was really nice, brave and loyal. Second, even if Robert Pattinson played Cedric doesn’t it mean that he’s a hufflepuff, and third, even if he was, why would it matter to you!
You only dislike him because he’s job is playing a character you don’t like, or did you hate him when he played Cedric too? (and with that I don’t mean that you maybe didn’t like him because you didn’t like his acting, just that you could feel insulted by being in the same house as him.
And I can promise you that he is a much better actor than me, and I’m a hufflepuff. Are you insulted by being in the same house as me too, then?

And four, you don’t need to worry because a true hufflepuff would never be ashamed of another house member, and would never ever say something like that,

I am a Hufflepuff, and I would just like to say that I think every house has different good qualities, all of which add up equally. Plus, just because you have the qualities of your house doesn’t mean you don’t have the qualities of other houses (eg. Hermione was brave and smart). To finish, I would like to remind everyone that ‘It is our choices that make us who we are’ and you CHOOSE what house you’re in So seriously people, stop hating on other houses and accept that everyone is different!!!
